Wanting Waves
Come with me, said the waves to the sand.
Let me engulf your nothingness into my wholeness
Pull you away from your arid destruction
Let my movement be your course of action
Find out who you are through my clear waters
I’ll ride your edge from crest to crevice, replied the sand to the wave.
Explore your shape, your ebb and flow.
Enjoy your surface and stay near my shore
Let me know the truth of our connection without being swept away.
But there is so much more of me to know! cried the waves to the sand.
I gently collect you, hold you, caress you and leave you each day
Is there nothing of you that desires to see beyond our turquoise connection?
To fully observe our reflection far past the horizon, much deeper than light
And how can I know you? asked the sand to the waves.
You lift me to drag and drop me as you carry away
You want depth, communion and knowing
Content and containment are one in the same
But to fall into you will break me apart
I can never be whole if I fold into you
But don’t you know, dear sand that you are already there? demanded the waves.
Spread across my depths, feeding the parts of me that hunger
Anchoring and giving life to a world beyond what you know
Do you not see you have already laid your claim across all that I am?
Then let that be enough for today, sighed the sand.
And come take a bit more from me tomorrow
For I must rest upon the shore
Pieces of a whole, awaiting your call
